Faithful to His Promises
God promises to raise up the righteous King from David’s line, Jesus Christ, who will shepherd His people with perfect justice, righteousness, and salvation.
- God judges unfaithful leaders who abuse, neglect, and scatter His people, reminding us that all leaders are accountable to Him for how they shepherd those entrusted to their care (vv. 1–2).
- God faithfully gathers and restores His flock, demonstrating His covenant love by bringing back His scattered people, providing faithful shepherds, and replacing fear with security and hope (vv. 3–4).
- God fulfills His promise by sending the Righteous Branch, the Messiah from David's line, who reigns with perfect wisdom, justice, and righteousness where every human leader has failed (vv. 5–6).
- Jesus Christ is "THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS," providing the righteousness we cannot earn ourselves and offering salvation, forgiveness, and eternal security to all who trust in Him (v. 6).
- God's redemption through Christ is the greater Exodus, delivering people from the bondage of sin, gathering believers from every nation, and assuring the future hope of Christ's everlasting kingdom, where His people will dwell securely forever (vv. 7–8).

- B — Believe in the Righteous Branch. "Behold, the days are coming... I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness..." (vv. 5–6). God's promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Our hope is not in governments, religious leaders, or ourselves, but in the Messiah whom God sent. Place your faith in Christ alone for salvation. Trust God's promises even when circumstances seem hopeless. Rest in God's faithfulness rather than human leadership. Where is my ultimate hope—in people or in Christ?
- R — Rest in His Righteousness. "Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS." (v. 6). We cannot earn God's acceptance through good works. Christ alone is our righteousness before God. Stop trying to earn God's favor through performance. Live with gratitude because you are accepted in Christ. When you fail, run to Christ instead of hiding in guilt. Am I relying on my own goodness or on Christ's righteousness?
- A — Accept His Authority. "A King shall reign and prosper..." (v. 5). Jesus is not only Savior but also King. Every area of life should be submitted to His rule. Obey God's Word even when it is difficult. Seek Christ's will in your family, work, finances, and relationships. Allow Him to shape your priorities and decisions. Is Jesus truly King over every area of my life?
- N — Nurture Others Faithfully. "I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them..." (v. 4). God condemned leaders who neglected His people and commended those who faithfully shepherded them. If you are a parent, pastor, teacher, or ministry leader, care faithfully for those God has entrusted to you. Encourage and disciple younger believers. Serve others with humility rather than seeking recognition. Am I caring for others the way Christ cares for me?
- C — Confide in God's Care. "They shall fear no more, nor be dismayed..." (v. 4). The Good Shepherd provides security for His flock. Bring your fears and anxieties to Christ in prayer. Remember that God gathers, protects, and preserves His people. Find peace in His sovereign care during uncertain times. Am I controlled by fear or by confidence in my Shepherd?
- H — Hope in His Kingdom. "Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely." (v. 6). Christ's kingdom has begun, but its fullest expression awaits His return. Believers live with confident expectation of His eternal reign. Live with an eternal perspective rather than being consumed by temporary troubles. Share the hope of Christ with those who do not know Him. Anticipate Christ's return with joyful expectancy. Does my daily life reflect the hope of Christ's coming kingdom?
