The Preparation

Jesus began gathering His first disciples, inviting them to follow Him and witness who He truly is.

  • Jesus is the promised Messiah and Son of God, the Lamb who takes away sin—worthy of wholehearted allegiance.
  • Jesus takes the initiative in calling followers, saying, “Follow Me,” and inviting them into personal relationship.
  • True disciples respond by abiding with Him, not merely learning about Him but walking closely with Him.
  • Genuine followers bring others to Jesus, as seen in Andrew and Philip’s immediate witness.
  • Encountering Jesus leads to transformation and confession, moving from doubt or limited understanding to declaring Him as the Son of God and King.

  • F — Find Jesus Personally. John 1:38 – “What do you seek?” Following Jesus begins with a personal pursuit, not just inherited faith. Jesus invites people to examine their true desires. Ask: Why am I following Jesus? Move from casual interest → intentional seeking
  • O — Observe and Abide. John 1:39 – “Come and see… they stayed with Him that day” The disciples didn’t just meet Jesus—they stayed with Him. Following Jesus is about relationship, not just information. Prioritize time with Christ (Word, prayer, worship) Don’t settle for surface-level Christianity
  • L — Lead Others to Jesus. John 1:41–42 – Andrew brought Simon. True followers become witnesses. Andrew didn’t preach a sermon—he brought a person. Identify one person to invite to Jesus. Share simply: “I have found the Messiah”
  • L — Listen to His Call. John 1:43 – “Follow Me.” Jesus’ call is personal and authoritative. It requires immediate response. Obey when Jesus prompts—don’t delay. Surrender areas where you’re resisting His call.
  • O — Overcome Doubts by Coming. John 1:46 – “Come and see.” Nathanael had doubts—but he came anyway. Jesus welcomes honest seekers. Bring your questions and doubts to Jesus. Don’t let skepticism keep you from encountering Him.
  • W — Worship with Conviction. John 1:49 – “You are the Son of God!” True followers respond with confession and worship. Encounter leads to conviction. Publicly and personally confess who Jesus is. Let your worship be rooted in truth, not emotion alone
