Renewal

God brings renewal by demonstrating His power to restore life and hope even in the face of death.

  • God Provides for the Needy: He multiplied the widow’s oil, showing that no debt is too great when placed in His hands.
  • God Rewards Faith and Hospitality: The Shunammite woman’s kindness to Elisha brought blessing and resurrection hope.
  • God Protects His People from Harm: He neutralized the deadly stew, reminding us He preserves life when danger surrounds us.
  • God Multiplies Insufficient Resources: He fed a hundred men with little bread, proving His abundance exceeds human limitation.
  • God Foreshadows Christ through Elisha: Each miracle anticipates Jesus, the true and greater prophet, who pays our debt, raises the dead, removes sin’s poison, and gives the Bread of Life in abundance.

L.I.F.E.

  • L – Lean on God’s Provision (vv. 1–7, Widow’s Oil): The widow had nothing but a little oil, yet God multiplied it when she obeyed in faith. Lean not on your own resources, but on God’s sufficiency. Bring Him your “little,” and He can turn it into abundance (Phil. 4:19).
  • I – Invest in Serving Others (vv. 8–17, Shunammite Woman’s Hospitality): The Shunammite woman used her resources to honor God’s prophet, and in return God blessed her with a son. When we invest in serving God and others—whether through time, hospitality, or generosity—we open the door for God’s blessings (Heb. 13:2; Matt. 10:41).
  • F – Fix Your Faith on God’s Power (vv. 18–37, Raising of the Son): Even when her child died, the Shunammite woman ran to Elisha in faith, saying, “It is well.” Fix your faith on the God who raises the dead. Trust Him in impossible situations, for He is greater than death, despair, or defeat (John 11:25–26).
  • E – Eat of God’s Abundant Supply (vv. 38–44, Stew & Feeding 100 Men): God turned poison into nourishment and multiplied loaves to feed a hundred. Eat from God’s table of grace. His Word is nourishment for our souls, and His provision never runs out (John 6:35).
