1 Kings 18

Divisions
The people wavered between worshiping Baal and following the Lord until Elijah called them to choose whom they would serve.
- God Alone is Supreme – Baal was powerless, but Yahweh answered with fire and rain, proving He alone is the living God.
- God Calls for Decision – Israel could no longer “waver between two opinions”; true worship requires wholehearted loyalty.
- Prayer Brings Power – Elijah’s persistent, humble prayers moved heaven to act (James 5:16–18).
- Judgment and Mercy Meet – God answered by fire (judgment) and then by rain (mercy), showing His holiness and grace.
- God’s Hand Empowers His Servants – Just as Elijah outran Ahab by the Spirit’s power, God strengthens His people to fulfill His purposes.
F.I.R.E.
- F – Faithfulness in any place (vv. 1–16): Obadiah shows us that faithfulness doesn’t always look like Elijah’s bold confrontation; sometimes it looks like quiet, behind-the-scenes obedience. Be faithful where God has placed you—whether in the palace (like Obadiah), the mountain (like Elijah), or the shadows.
- I – Integrity in decision (vv. 17–21): Elijah asked: “How long will you falter between two opinions?” Israel’s wavering mirrored a divided heart. We cannot limp between God and idols (money, comfort, success, relationships). Integrity means a clear choice: The Lord, He is God.
- R – Rely on prayer, not performance (vv. 26–37): The prophets of Baal shouted, leapt, and cut themselves—all in vain. Elijah simply prayed with confidence in God’s word. God answers faith-filled prayer, not performance or frenzy. Trust His power, not your effort.
- E – Expect God to act (vv. 38–46): Elijah prayed seven times before the rain came. God’s answer was sure, but Elijah’s persistence showed faith. When we pray according to God’s promises, we should expect Him to act—even if the answer starts as small as “a cloud the size of a man’s hand.”
