The kings of Israel and Judah pursued their own ways, showing how leadership apart from God brings ruin.

  • God’s Word is supreme — Jeroboam’s altar was condemned, showing that no human plan or power can override God’s command.
  • Disobedience has consequences — even the man of God lost his life when he failed to fully obey God’s instructions.
  • Idolatry corrupts nations — both Israel and Judah fell into false worship, proving that sin spreads quickly when leaders compromise.
  • God’s judgment is certain — Jeroboam’s dynasty was doomed, and Rehoboam suffered invasion and humiliation because of covenant unfaithfulness.
  • Christ is our true King — unlike Jeroboam and Rehoboam, He perfectly obeys God, restores true worship, and gives us an unshakable kingdom.

  • F – Follow God’s Word Above All: The man of God in 1 Kings 13 disobeyed God’s clear command when persuaded by another voice. We must not compromise God’s Word for CONVENIENCE, TRADITION, or even PERSUASIVE PEOPLE. Scripture is the final authority.
  • A – Avoid Idolatry in Any Form: Jeroboam made golden calves to secure loyalty but led Israel into sin (1 Kings 12:28–30). Idolatry today may be CAREER, COMFORT, REPUTATION, or POSSESSIONS. Anything we trust more than God will eventually enslave and destroy.
  • I – Imitate Servant Leadership: Rehoboam rejected wise counsel and sought power over service, dividing the kingdom (1 Kings 12:7–11). In family, church, or workplace, true leadership reflects Christ—serving rather than dominating (Mark 10:43–45).
  • T – Trust God’s Sovereignty: “This thing is from Me” (1 Kings 12:24). God used even Rehoboam’s foolishness to accomplish His purposes. In confusing times, we can trust that God is in control. He weaves even human failure into His redemptive plan.
  • H – Hold Fast to Covenant Faithfulness: Judah’s decline under Rehoboam (1 Kings 14:22–24) shows the danger of forgetting God’s covenant. We are called to cling to Christ, the fulfillment of God’s covenant, and live holy lives in a culture that tempts us to compromise.
