Biblical Thinking
Teaching must be rooted in the gospel. This study reminds us that faithful teaching keeps the gospel central and unchanging.
- Justification is by faith, not law: No one is made right with God through the works of the law; only through faith in Jesus Christ (v. 2:16).
- Our new life is found in Christ: Believers are crucified with Christ and now live by trusting Him, not by relying on their own strength (v. 2:20).
- Grace is nullified by legalism: If righteousness could come through the law, then Christ died for nothing (v. 2:21).
- The Spirit is received by faith: The Holy Spirit came not by works, but through hearing and believing the gospel (v. 3:2).
- Spiritual maturity continues by faith: Just as salvation begins by the Spirit, it must also be completed by relying on Him—not the flesh (v. 3:3).
G.R.A.C.E.
- G – Give up trying to earn God’s approval: “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ…” (v. 2:16)
- R – Remember your identity in Christ: “I have been crucified with Christ… Christ lives in me.” (v. 2:20)
- A – Allow the Holy Spirit to lead your growth: “Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” (v. 3:3)
- C – Continue in faith, not flesh: “Does He who supplies the Spirit… do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” (v. 3:5)
- E – Exalt the cross, not your effort: “If righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” (v. 2:21)
